Studio Information
-
Piano lessons in Ms. Abbey’s studio focus on obtaining a musical education through creativity and goal-based learning. Ms. Abbey’s holistic approach ensures that every student is capable of experiencing the joy of music.
-
Lessons are taught at Dorsett Arts Studio in Maryland Heights, MO (located next to the Steinway Piano Gallery), and at Ms. Hayden’s residence in Belleville, Illinois.
Ms. Abbey is currently accepting students. Please contact at missapianostudio@gmail.com for an audition.
Students looking to begin lessons with Ms. Abbey should be prepared for a time commitment outside of the weekly lesson. Practice is essential to growth, and to a return on your investment in piano lessons. Daily practice should be at least 15-20 minutes for the beginning student, 45 minutes-2 hours for the intermediate student, and up to 4 hours a day for advanced students.
Students are accepted as young as 6 years of age. (Younger students will be considered, dependent upon level of parental involvement in practice.) Students should have an acoustic piano at home.
There are two studio recitals a year, in December and April/May. Interested students will also have the opportunity to participate in masterclasses and competitions.
-
Lessons are 45-60 minutes. Students less than 6 years of age will be considered for a 30 minute lesson.
Each lesson will blend musical literature, scales and arpeggios, theory, and music history (appropriate to the level of the student). Beginner students can expect to work on technique and basic musical principles. Intermediate and advanced students will work through more varied repertoire during their lessons.
At the end of every lesson, students receive detailed practice notes to assist them during their daily practice.

1) Venmo, CashApp, Zelle, and Paypal are all accepted. The monthly fees are as follows:
30 minute lessons: $140/month
45 minute lessons: $220/month
60 minute lessons: $280/month
This fee assumes 4 lessons a month; if the student has to miss a lesson, it is up to the parent to reschedule a Saturday morning with Ms. Abbey. Students will not be reimbursed if they cannot find time for a makeup lesson within Ms. Abbey’s availability. If the month has 5 lesson days, students will NOT be charged for the extra lesson.
This fee covers the lesson itself, any necessary books or music (at Ms. Abbey’s discretion), recital costs, and workbook costs.
Any competitions, festivals, or exams the student elects to participate in are NOT covered in the regular lessons fee. Students electing to participate will cover their entry fees separately.
2) In the circumstance of inclement weather, lessons will be transferred to Zoom. If a student has a cough/cold/anything contagious, but is feeling well enough to have a lesson, that lesson will be transferred online. This road goes both ways -if I have a cough or cold, I will keep my germs to myself, and hold lessons online.
Makeup lessons (for sick days and vacations) are offered on Saturday mornings, dependent on my availability. I will let you know about any vacations I take one month in advance. If we cannot reschedule around my absence, then you will not owe for those lessons.
3) Students are expected to participate in both recitals (Winter and Spring). Students who wish to compete in musical competitions and masterclasses will be given opportunity to do so, dependent on level.
